Sounding Board 4.0

What a phenomenal day at USC! We partnered with our friends at CAS for the biggest and best Sounding Board yet. We more than doubled attendance from previous years, and more than tripled the number of panel discussions we offered. Word is spreading about this incredible, sound-centric experience! Attendees were treated not only to informative topics and our now-famous Parade of Carts, but also catered breakfast, lunch, and a beer / wine / appetizer mixer at the end of the day. For the first time we also welcomed select vendors to give one-on-one demos and information to our guests. Despite the low ticket price of just $25, we were able to donate $4000 to EIPMA to assist in their mission of mentoring new artists. Huge thanks to all our panelists, cart owners, vendors, committee members, and everyone who attended. We'll see you next year!

MPSE Fall Family Picnic

There is nothing more enjoyable than a day at the park with our fabulous members and their beautiful families! We were ecstatic to have a record 350 members attend with their guests to enjoy an all-you-can-eat Mexican feast, our open beer / wine bar, carnival games, face painting, bouncers, and our now-legendary Raffle. The Raffle boasted more than $2000 in amazing prizes, including one year subscriptions to Pro Tools, Warner Bros. Studio Tour tickets, and a Kids' basket featuring toys, games and a Kindle Fire. Every guest got to take home a commemorative MPSE keychain flashlight, and 50 lucky families went home with a pumpkin. Huge thanks to our sponsors AVID, CAS, and Warner Bros. Post Production Services for their continued generosity and support. We're already looking forward to seeing everyone at next year's picnic!

The Fifth Element Screening and Q&A screening and Q&A

Thanks to all who attended The Fifth Element screening and Q&A! It was another phenomenal day of networking and learning from the film's post production crew in the iconic Darryl F. Zanuck Theater on the Fox Lot.

The MPSE was proud to feature Mark Mangini MPSE (Supervising Sound Editor), John Fasal (Sound Designer), John Amicarella (Producer), Ron Bartlett (Re-recording Mixer), Ellen Heuer (Foley Artist), and Sylvie Landry (Picture Editor) on the Q&A panel and they did not disappoint! Attendees were treated to loads of behind the scenes stories and discussion of the many innovations that went into this quintessential sci-fi classic.

The Matrix 25 Anniversary screening and Q&A with Dane A. Davis MPSE
(New York, NY)

An event so nice we had to do it twice!

Thank you to all of our NY area members who came out to enjoy the special screening of the original Matrix film in Dolby Atmos and Q&A with her Oscar-winning sound supervisor, Dane A. Davis, MPSE. What a phenomenal time we had!

Attendees got to mingle and enjoy the breathtaking views of the city before settling into Warner Bros.' luxurious theater at Hudson Yards. Hearing the remastered film in Dolby Atmos was an incredible treat.

The Q&A with Dane was filled with amazing behind-the-scenes stories which showed why he richly deserved the Oscar for Best Sound Editing. So much innovation! The Q&A was followed by a trivia contest where attendees won Matrix 25th Anniversary t-shirts and Matrix posters signed by Dane.

To cap off this exceptional event, our guests were welcomed to an afterparty thanks to our friends at Final Frame. This gave everyone the opportunity for some one-on-one time with Dane, while enjoying some of that deliciously famous NYC pizza.

Sound Advice: The Last Samurai 20th Anniversary Event

Thank you to Eric Marks, MPSE as well as MPSE members for attending this very special 20th Anniversary retrospective on the sound work in The Last Samurai. Panelists Mark Stoeckinger: Supervising Sound Editor, Andy Nelson: Re-Recording Mixer, Anna Behlmer: Re-Recording Mixer, and Steven Rosenblum: Picture Editor shared many stories about how this 2003 film came to life. The Sounding Board v 3.0

Thanks to everyone who came out to join us for The Sounding Board v 3.0. What an incredible day we had!

We were thrilled to feature two Q&A panels packed with fantastic sound artists, plus the ever popular Parade of Carts, where we got to see how the masters of sound make their magic. A delicious kebab lunch gave everyone time to relax and visit, while the CAS / MPSE merch raffle sent a dozen attendees home with some sweet swag.

2023 Fall MPSE Family Picnic

What an incredible day of food, fun, and friends at the MPSE Fall Family Picnic! It was so wonderful to see everyone in person after such a long break. Thanks to our Picnic Sponsors NBCUniversal, CAS, Warner Bros., FOX, AVID, and Formosa Group, and the generosity of our members, we raised $14,000 for the Ethel Crutcher Scholarship Fund. Sound Advice: The Mask of Zorro - 25th Anniversary Special Event

Thank you to MPSE Members, and Eric Marks, MPSE for attending a very special event celebrating The Mask of Zorro's 25th Anniversary with the sound team that brought this story to life! Panelists Dave McMoyler: Supervising Sound Editor, Glenn T. Morgan: Dialogue and ADR Supervisor, Hector Gika, MPSE: Sound Designer, and Jeffrey Wilhoit, MPSE: Foley Artist presented an insightful look into creating the 1998 film. We express our gratitude to Sony Pictures Studios for hosting this event.
