About MPSE

Founded in 1953, the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) is an organization that, through the efforts of its volunteer board of directors and dedicated international membership, strives to celebrate community, and the creative and technical advances in sound through a range of communication tools:

      • Wavelength is MPSE’s publication that offers in-depth articles on the past, present, and future of sound editorial.
      • Sound Advice events provide an opportunity for discussion, learning, and growth.
      • The prestigious Golden Reel Awards honors the best audio work in the entertainment industry, and reinforces the professional status of sound editors as collaborative storytellers.
      • Screeners provide the ability for membership to listen to the best film and television work ever crafted.

Through its unique roster of creative talent and industry mainstays, the MPSE is able to approach vendors, manufacturers and organizations with a targeted group of high-end users that are able to provide constructive feedback and promotion. Through these partnerships, members can benefit from access and discounts to products, services, and events that are of interest to them.

A core principle of the MPSE is to support diversity, and emerging talent. In addition to offering student membership, the organization is proud to be the brainchild behind, and partner with, the Entertainment Industry Mentoring Partnership Alliance (EIPMA) which offers students and educators unique learning opportunities. The winner of the Verna Fields Award for Best Student Sound Editing at the Golden Reel Awards will also be the beneficiary of the Ethel Crutcher Scholarship.
