The Matrix penetrated every aspect of culture, technology, media and virtually everything in between, and also spawned many imitators. The experience of seeing and hearing the film in theaters was absolutely transcendent.
The Matrix went on to win four Academy Awards, including Dane A. Davis MPSE winning for Best Sound Effects Editing.
