Virtual Lunch + Learn: Fast Times at Foley High (20 Aug 2026)

MPSE Lunch and Learn: Fast Times at Foley High with Katie Waters, MPSE and Bryen Hensley, MPSE

An hour zoom session on Noisefloor's Foley process, decision-making for story and quality, "performance is a plus" model, and virtual tour of Noisefloor's Foley stage.

Thursday, August 20th, 12PM PST on Zoom

Katie Waters is a professional Foley Artist who transformed her love of performance into a thriving career creating sound for movies, video games, and podcasts. Growing up in Central Illinois, Katie was drawn to mimicking characters and acting like anyone but herself. During film school at Columbia College Chicago, Katie discovered her calling through a Foley class, where she learned about the pioneer Jack Foley. With her theater and athlete backgrounds combined, she was drawn to Foley's unique blend of performance and technical skill—where Foley Artists perform sounds live as they're recorded, then later edited to sync to the visual.

After graduation, Katie built her career through internships before joining Noisefloor in Chicago in 2014 as Studio Manager. In 2016 she was promoted to Producer while occasionally performing Foley for projects. When Noisefloor built their Foley stage in 2020, Katie transitioned into their full time in-house Foley Artist, handling the complete process—cueing, performing, and editing sound effects.

As a Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) member, Katie's work has earned Golden Reel and G.A.N.G. Award nominations for Destiny 2's cinematic contributions. She was featured in an Encyclopaedia Britannica video interview about Foley Artistry and occasionally supervises sound on films.

When not on the Foley stage, Katie enjoys time with her family, gardening, true crime, and actors' podcasts.

Bryen Hensley, a sound specialist with over 30 years of audio expertise, is a distinguished Sound Designer, Supervising Sound Editor, and Partner at Noisefloor, Chicago’s leading sound studio. After graduating from Grand Valley State University, he started his lifelong career in the Chicago Post audio world. During his journey through the city’s top post-production houses, including IPA The Editing House, Post Effects, and Resolution Digital Studios, has honed his skills in sound mixing and design across diverse projects.

Above all, Bryen’s sonic storytelling has elevated independent films like “Hoop Dreams” and “Good Guy With a Gun,” blockbuster video games including the “Halo” and “Destiny” series, and narrative podcasts such as “Incoming.” As an active member of the Motion Picture Sound Editors Guild (MPSE), he continues to push the boundaries of audio innovation.

Once joining Noisefloor in 2017, Bryen helped expand their offerings in many areas. In 2019, Bryen joined the ownership group along with founders Cory Coken and Jamie Vanadia. At Noisefloor, Bryen Hensley sound specialist leads a team offering comprehensive audio production services. Voice-over recording and podcast studio rentals to cutting-edge Dolby Atmos mixing and Foley recording, equally Noisefloor is the go-to destination for filmmakers, musicians, podcasters, and businesses seeking top-tier sound solutions in Chicago.

Finally, Bryen’s dedication to his craft ensures that every project, from film post-production to game audio design, receives meticulous attention and creative excellence. Choose Noisefloor for unparalleled audio production services in Chicago and work with Bryen to bring your sonic vision to life.

**Stay tuned for our next MPSE Virtual Lunch + Learn: September 24, 12 pm PST with Steven Saltzman, MPSE!**
